Doctors

Dr. Chad Roeber DVM- Staff Doctor

Dr. Chad Roeber has deep roots in western Colorado, with his ancestors starting the family ranch in Paonia in 1889. His early ranch life began a lifelong vocation of working with animals.  After undergraduate work at the University of Denver, Dr. Roeber graduated from the CSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. After a one year stint in Northern California, he has spent the rest of his veterinary career here at Alpine. He has continued in practice here because of the many relationships he has enjoyed with the pets and the pet owners that have graced this practice. Throughout the years in the Roaring Fork Valley, Dr. Roeber has served as a musician and parish council president at his church, a pee wee basketball coach for his kids, a past member of Rotary International and currently - a Big Buddy in the valley’s Buddy Program. With his two children now well into adulthood, he is allowed to live in a house near El Jebel with his wife of 33 years, Jenni, run by their two cats Oliver and Tuck.

Dr. Chuck Maker DVM – Staff Doctor

Dr. Maker is passionate about enriching the human animal bond both large and small. Dr. Maker and his family enjoy family travel and spending time in the great outdoors with their molly mule “Lilly” and black lab “crazy Maisy”. Dr Maker obtained his education at Penn State, the University of Tennessee and  at the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Minneapolis where he interned.  Thereafter he practiced in a large equine and cattle practice in north central Minnesota for 3 years before joining Alpine in 1997.

He enjoys both patient centered equine clinical practice and veterinary practice management. His areas of special clinical interest are sport horse lameness and preventive and emergency intensive care. While trail riding in the back country is where he likes to spend his time in the saddle, his daughter Makenzie spends time reigning on the western slope in the CWRHA. His son Tristan aspires to some day follow dad in the veterinary profession. He and his family love the small town feel and connectedness they feel in the Carbondale community.

Dr. Louise Marron DVM, DAVDC - Staff Doctor

Dr. Louise Marron, a Colorado native, is a board certified veterinary dentist. She also provides general medical care for horses and companion animals. With an aptitude for science and a passion for connecting with animals, Dr. Marron recognized Veterinary Medicine was her calling as a young girl.  She began working in her home-town veterinary clinic at 13 years of age and has never strayed off the veterinary path.  She attended college and veterinary school at Colorado State University. Upon graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, she joined the team at Alpine Animal Hospital. She continues to enjoy the challenges and rewards of her life’s work now as a dental specialist for animals.

Dr. Marron deeply values her family, friends, and the Carbondale community.  Her four-legged family members are Skeeter, a 30 year old mare who has been a steadfast companion for 27 years, and Honey, a young molly mule steed for the mountainous backcountry. In her free time, Louise loves to fly, bike, horseback ride, ski, snowboard, SCUBA dive, and travel around the world.

Dr. Melissa Gisleson, DVM- Staff Doctor

Dr. Gisleson has recently moved to the valley with her husband Andy to join Alpine Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian for companion animal medicine and surgery.  Ever since she can remember animals have played an integral part in her life. Through her studies and experience with animals and their owners, she has become very passionate about how the human-animal bond can impact one's life for the better.  Melissa has been involved in veterinary medicine since she was 16 and started working at her local veterinary clinic in Illinois.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and then went on to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2013.  Since graduation, Dr. Gisleson has been working at a busy small animal practice in Davenport, Iowa while her husband Andy has been completing his residency in family medicine. An entourage of family pets - Charlie and Luther both boxers, Hiccup a mastiff mix and 2 cats, Ember and Midge have made the move to the Roaring Fork Valley with Melissa and Andy.  All look forward to settling down, getting back to their small town roots, and enjoying all that Colorado has to offer!

Dr. Jessie Gaik, DVM - Intern

Dr. Jessie Gaik comes to Carbondale from the suburbs of Chicago, where she grew up riding hunter/jumpers and competing at horse shows throughout the country at a national level.  Following obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Loyola in Chicago, she returned to the show jumping world and opened a hunter/jumper barn outside of Chicago.  Jessie was a horse trainer and Grand Prix show jumping rider for many years before returning to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary medicine.  Jessie recently graduated this past spring with a DVM and will be with us at Alpine Animal Hospital for one year completing her internship.  She is also currently pursuing a master’s degree through the University of Florida in Veterinary Forensics and anti-cruelty, affiliated with the ASPCA.  Due to her vast background in the sport horse industry, Jessie has an interest in equine sports medicine as well as small animal general practice.  She has also been an active member of World Vets Foundation, providing spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and care to the animals of third world countries and communities in need.

Jessie has brought her Labrador “Sam I Am” and her retired Grand Prix horse “Pickle” up to the valley so they too can enjoy the beautiful views and fresh air.  She is looking forward to joining the Carbondale community and exploring the beautiful area.  You may find her on the polo fields this summer learning a new equine sport and perhaps snowboarding in the winter.
