Wellness and Preventative Medicine

Alpine Animal hospital is dedicated to enhancing your horse’s overall health and longevity. The key is disease prevention and early detection of health challenges.

Regularly scheduled wellness visits will maximize your horse’s good health, happiness, fitness and continued performance. A full wellness workup includes:

An annual exam
A dental exam
Vaccinations in the spring and fall
Fecal count and recommended deworming
A dietary and nutrition review
It may include a hoof and gate assessment

Regular wellness care can reduce risks to your horse’s health by providing preventative medicine, early detection of developing problems and guidance on long term care.

Complete Blood Count and Serum Biochemical Analysis:
Geriatric wellness includes an annual serum and blood testing to evaluate immune system function, liver and kidney function and monitor for the development of equine Cushings Disease.

For you convenience, Alpine offers an Equine Adult Wellness Program. The heart of this program is a scheduled annual physical examination of the eyes, heart, lungs, skin, musculoskeletal system, coat, oral cavity, and digestive tract. The general condition and weight of your horse will be evaluated and dietary and nutritional recommendations made. Through this program we also provide fecal analysis, a recommended deworming program, if needed and regular annual vaccinations for:

  • Tetanus
  • Eastern and Western Encephalitis
  • West Nile Virus
  • Rhinopneumonitis and Influenza
  • Rabies

A written report on your horses exam with any concerns or recommendations will be provided to you.

Dental care will be assessed and recommendations made as the need is present. The program includes the appropriate sedation for the necessary examination. Dental floating or any other corrective care is not included in this plan.

Enrollment in our Wellness Programs requires a single, advance payment of our annual program fee. You may register at any time of the year.  Call us for more information or to have an application faxed or sent to you.
