At Alpine Animal Hospital, June is Microchip Awareness Month—and we’re celebrating with a special giveaway!

Losing a beloved pet is every owner’s worst nightmare. Whether they slip out of the yard, dash out during fireworks, or get separated on a hike, it only takes a moment. A collar and tag are important, but they’re not always reliable—collars can break or fall off. That’s where microchipping comes in.

What Is a Microchip?
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is quickly and safely implanted under your pet’s skin—usually between the shoulder blades. Each chip contains a unique identification number that’s linked to your contact information in a secure national database. The microchips we utilize also monitor your pet’s body temperature, no more unwanted thermometers!

Why Microchipping Is So Important

  • Permanent ID: Unlike tags, microchips can’t be lost or removed.
  • Fast Reunions: Shelters and veterinary hospitals can scan the chip and contact you right away.
  • Peace of Mind: Even indoor pets or those with secure yards can get out. A chip is lifelong protection.

Quick Facts:

  • The procedure is quick, safe, and feels like a routine vaccine.
  • Microchips do not have GPS tracking.
  • Be sure to keep your contact information up to date in the registry!
  • There is no annual fee to keep your microchip active (unless you want the fancy services companies like Home Again offer; those are included in the first year).
